Playing the Audio and Slide Presentation

Most computers sold today are multimedia computers that come equipped for presentations like Learn It Now. However, if you are not sure, here are a few things to check.

First, make sure that your computer has speakers and that they are properly connected. To test, double-click the "Sounds" icon that can be found in the "Control Panel" area of Windows. Highlight any of the sound options from the list and then press the Preview button to hear the sound.

Second, make sure that your computer has the latest free Flash plug-in program needed to run the Learn It Now audio and animate the slideshow. The Flash plug-in is pre-installed in most newer-model computers and web browsers. If your computer does not have the Flash plug-in, you should receive an automatic prompt and download instructions when you click to play any of the Learn It Now content.

If You Are on a Computer Network

In some cases, organization or business computer networks are configured to block presentations like Learn It Now. If you have difficulty accessing the audio and slide portions of Learn It Now, contact your network administrator to determine the problem.

Using the Audio and Synchronized Slide Feature

Learn It Now allows you to play each section of the audio/slide presentation separately. The subsections listed on the menu bar correspond to the subsections in the text transcript.

Choose a specific part of the presentation to play from the menu on the left of the Learn It Now screen. After the portion you chose cues up, begin it by clicking the Play button when it appears on your screen.

Loading the Audio/Slide Presentation

Learn It Now is built on a "streaming" model, i.e., it is designed to begin playing the audio and accompanying slides after a very short loading time. With a 56K modem, allow from 30-60 seconds. With faster connections, the wait should be only a few seconds.

Because the balance of the presentation continues to load after the presentation begins, you may see a "Time Remaining" box at the bottom of your browser counting down from several minutes. You can ignore that countdown as it does not affect how the presentation plays.

Pause and Volume Controls

You can pause the presentation or adjust the volume. While the audio is playing and the slides are changing, click the arrow immediately to the right of the slides to open the control box. Click the arrow again to close the box.

Questions and Discussion

To respond to the presentation in any way, please fill out the Questions and Discussion box and click the submit button. Your message will be relayed to the Learn It Now presenter.
